 Why yet another distribution?

There are plenty of Linux distributions around, so why yet another?
Well, on one hand, there are not that many "generic" distributions. Most distributions you'll find in the wild are in fact just a recompilation of some other distribution (in most cases RedHat or Debian), or they are "mini distributions". Most "general purpose distributions" are - well "general purpose". It is not that easy to strip them down for a specific purpose.
Pynix on the other hand has been designed to be used as a base for a specific binary distribution.
You may want to read a paper about this here.
 A note for end users

If you just want to install and try yet another distribution, you won't find on this site what you're searching for. Pynix is a meta distribution, which means you can build your own binary distribution from it. This however requires quite a bit of technical expertise.
